Counselor's Corner

Lunch Bunch will be starting soon!  We’ve just cleared a space.  This is a great time for students to work on social skills through games and art in small groups with our counselor, Ms. Wolne.  Group members change weekly for short-term support.

Leadership Team selection process is beginning.  This group is open to our 5th graders who want to be “interns” at Hawthorne, who have good behavior, and who keep up on their studies.  Students are required to submit a letter to Ms. Wolne about what being a leader means to them.  Letters must also have a staff sponsor with a signature at the bottom of the letter.  Leaders meet often to discuss their progress, plan their projects, and evaluate how they are doing.  Students develop career skills and are a valuable part of the school community!

The District Counseling office will provide resources, professional development and support to APS Professional School Counselors, assisting them to embrace and enhance school counselor best practices, while advocating for every student to receive equitable access to rigorous academic preparation, and college and career readiness.

The Counseling Programs are in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model, is designed to meet the following career development standards for all students:

  • Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.
  • Students will employ strategies to achieve further career success and satisfaction.
  • Students will understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training and the world of work.
